Eyelash Transplants - Hair Transplant Areas

Eyelash transplant procedures were first introduced in 2004. There are several reasons an individual may require an eyelash transplant. Some men and women have a genetic tendency towards losing their eyelashes. Scars or burns can also cause eyelashes to disappear.

It is important to wait six months to a year before choosing an eyelash transplant procedure. In most cases of eyelash damage, the lashes will grow back within one year.

Eyelash transplant procedures are performed by extracting hair follicles from the scalp. Connective tissue and fat is removed from the graft, leaving the follicle and bulb intact. The hair is inserted into the eyelid using a curved needle. The insertion matches the natural growth pattern of eyelashes.

Most patients will receive 25 to 30 hairs in each of their upper eyelids. Eyelash procedures are not approved for insertion into the lower lids.

The eyelash hairs are not genetically altered during the transplantation procedure. This means that the eyelashes must be trimmed on a weekly basis. An eyelash curler will also be necessary to maintain a natural eyelash curvature. Many patients find that mascara increases the natural appearance of their transplanted eyelashes.
